A national security council (NSC) is usually an executive branch governmental body responsible for coordinating policy on national security issues and advising chief executives on matters related to national security. An NSC is often headed by a national security advisor and staffed with senior-level officials from military, diplomatic, intelligence, law enforcement and other governmental bodies. The functions and responsibilities of an NSC at the strategic state level are different from those of the United Nations Security Council, which is more of a diplomatic forum. Occasionally a nation will be ruled by a similarly named body, such as "the National Security Committee" or "Council for National Security". These bodies are often a result of the establishment or preservation of a military dictatorship (or some other national crisis), do not always have statutory approval, and are usually intended to have transitory or provisional powers. Executive Branch
The Executive, also referred as the Executive branch or Executive power, is the term commonly used to describe that part of government which enforces the law, and has overall responsibility for the governance of a State (polity), state. In political systems based on the separation of powers, such as the United States of America, USA, government authority is distributed between several branches in order to prevent power being concentrated in the hands of a single person or group. To achieve this, each branch is subject to checks by the other two; in general, the role of the Legislature is to pass laws, which are then enforced by the Executive, and interpreted by the Judiciary. The Executive can be also be the source of certain types of law, such as a decree or executive order. National Security Committee (Ireland)
The National Security Committee (NSC) of Ireland is a secretive inter-departmental committee responsible for ensuring that the Taoiseach (Prime Minister of Ireland) and Government of Ireland are kept informed of high-level national security, intelligence and defence issues, and the state's response to them. The National Security Council (NSC) (IAST: ''Rāṣṭrīya Surakṣā Pariṣad'') of India is an executive government agency tasked with advising the Prime Minister's Office on matters of national security and strategic interest. National Security Council (Fiji)
The National Security Council is, as its name indicates, the Republic of Fiji's national security council. It was established in 1990, through the Fiji Intelligence Service Decree, by the interim government which followed the 1987 coups d'état. The Council's purpose was to "determine and direct the action to be taken in respect of matters affecting the sovereignty, integrity and security of Fiji and its people". In 2006, under the government of Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, it "consist dlargely of government members", with "the police and the army only attend ngthrough invitation". Following the December 2006 military coup, the new government-established National Council for Building a Better Fiji recommended that the National Security Council "incorporate wider membership - including the military and police, civil society organisations, women's organisations, academic institutions and community groups".
